CHOLESTEROL

Know Your Cholesterol

CHOLESTEROL IS WHAT THE HECK?

Cholesterol is a type of fat made in the liver and found in animal foods. Cholesterol is needed by the body's vital functions such as:

build cell walls

metabolism of nutrients

melindungai neural networks

make hormones

Cholesterol can cause negative effects in the body when levels exceed normal limits.

High cholesterol levels in the blood can increase the risk of heart disease. Cholesterol can settle and stick to the artery walls and narrowing of arterial blood flow. Narrowing of the arteries resulting in blood can not flow perfectly into the heart. If the heart is not getting enough blood supply, then there will be pain in the chest (chest pain).

Narrowed arteries can also result in a fully enclosed arteries and blood can not flow to the heart, it can cause a heart attack (heart attack) / coronary heart disease.

TYPE OF CHOLESTEROL

HDL good cholesterol, high levels of LDL transports cholesterol from the blood to the liver to be destroyed.

LDL: cholesterol, transports cholesterol from the liver to the arteries.

Triglycerides: A type of fat in the blood.

VLDL: Similar to LDL, triglyceride transport into the bloodstream.

Total cholesterol: HDL + LDL + VLDL

Levels of LDL, VLDL and triglycerides are high and low HDL is a risk factor:

High blood pressure!

Increases risk of heart attack (CHD = coronary heart disease)!

Increase the risk of stroke!

Cause kidney failure!

Broken down into LDL cholesterol by the body cells for metabolism. Once described then becomes what is called blood cholesterol.

The main danger of high blood cholesterol is a buildup of plaque (plaque) that reduce the diameter of blood vessels that can block the supply of oxygen to the body tissues.

Coronary arteries are blood vessels that supply blood and oxygen (O2 and food) for our heart. Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) occurs when the coronary arteries become blocked by deposits of cholesterol.

Causes of blood that contains oxygen and nutrients needed (so that the heart can work well) is not up to the heart. If the heart does not get oxygen and food, then there will be pain in the chest (chest pain) and heart attacks.

If the arterial blood vessels (veins) to the heart becomes blocked then you will have a heart attack!

If the arterial blood vessels (veins) the brain is blocked then you will be subject to a stroke!

If the arterial blood vessels (arteries), kidney blocked then you will be subject to kidney failure!

If you have LDL levels over 100 mg / dL) and HDL less than 40 mg / dL, the risk of coronary heart disease will be even greater.

Some causes of high cholesterol, among others:

Eating too much saturated fat (saturated fat) such as butter, cake, biscuits and fast food.

More weight (fat).

Lack of exercise.

Other risk factors for coronary heart disease are:

Diabetes

Eating too much saturated fat (saturated fat) such as butter, cake, biscuits and fast food.

Smoking (passif and active)

High blood pressure

There are families who have had a heart attack

Factors of age (men> 45 years and women> 55 years)

Less physical activity / sport

Overweight
